            Pantel del Cueto & Associates LLC (originally Pantel, del Cueto & Associates) is a recognized and fully bilingual (Spanish & English) historic preservation firm in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. We have been in business since 1984. Our team has a long-standing track record of successful projects in the fields of archaeology, traditional architecture, and history. We work with clients and strive to complete our projects within the approved budget and the agreed time frame.

            The principals in our core office have more than 40 years of successful multidisciplinary projects with private property owners, developers, federal and commonwealth regulatory agencies, and international organizations. As a small historic preservation firm, we have the flexibility to adapt to our clients’ needs and schedules rapidly and effectively.

            Anthropologist, Archaeologist, International Heritage Management

            Dr. Agamemnon Gus Pantel has had over fifty years of historic preservation experience in the Caribbean and Latin American, in the academic world, private sector and with international organizations.  He received specialized conservation training at the UNESCO world center ((International Center for the Study and the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property), ICCROM, in Rome, and has received fellowships from the Smithsonian Institution and The George Washington University.  He has done extensive research in the earliest precolumbian and the New World Spanish Colonial periods, as well as teaching archaeology to university level students both in the programs of anthropology and in schools of architecture.


            Over the past two decades he has been a pioneer in the application of remote sensing with GPR (ground penetrating radar) in the Caribbean. He has served on historic preservation review boards and served as primary archaeological consultant to numerous federal U.S. programs in Puerto Rico, including EPA and USDA Forest Service.  He is an Active Member of international and national professional organizations in archaeology, architecture and academia and is an Invited Member of the Scientific Committee of Archaeological Heritage Management (ICAHM) of the International Committee on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS). He has published and lectured extensively on archaeology, the application of archaeology to architectural projects, field methodologies, and legislation regarding cultural resources management.

            Conservation Architect

            Beatriz del Cueto is a licensed Conservation Architect, Fellow of the American Institute of Architects, Fellow of the American Academy in Rome, Fellow of the James Marston Fitch Foundation, recipient of the Henry Klumb Award, U.S. representative for post-graduate studies at the UNESCO Architectural Conservation Program of ICCROM  in Rome, Italy. 

            Architect del Cueto’s research work, publications, academic contributions, built projects, work as a consultant and her consistent civic commitment have earned her a leadership position in Puerto Rico and abroad.  Her articles and architectural projects have received numerous awards locally, nationally and internationally, and  has extensively published on traditional building materials, methods and projects.


            She has lectured extensively, both in the Caribbean, United States and Europe about architectural research, historic preservation and building technologies. Del Cueto was founder and director of the Architectural Conservation Laboratory of the School of Architecture of the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico, the first university level facility of its kind in the West Indies.  She served as Associate Adjunct Professor at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation. She continues to research and write about traditional building technologies, as well as the latter building techniques utilizing Portland cement, reinforced concrete, as well as steel frame, and their appropriate intervention and restoration. She is  completing her Doctoral Program of the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura, Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, Spain for a Ph.D. in Architecture, Building, Urban Planning and Landscape.

            Traditional Architecture Construction

            Mr. Garcia is a graduate in architecture and has dedicated his professional career to the construction industry with a clear focus on traditional architectural projects involving restoration and rehabilitation. He has had extensive experience and success in projects throughout Puerto Rico and continues to be a university faculty member of architecture at Catholic University in Ponce.

            Paola Schiappacasse

            Ph.D. - Senior Archaeologist

            Dr. Schiappacasse has participated in significant Spanish-colonial sites in Puerto Rico and is a recognized expert in the identification of Spanish ceramics in the New World. She has participated in both Spanish-colonial and precolumbian archaeological excavations and continues to lecture at the University of Puerto Rico in Rio Piedras.

            Juan José Ortíz-Aguilú

            M.A. - Senior Archaeologist

            Professor Ortiz•Aguilu has had extensive academic preparation in archaeological theoretical issues and extensive field experience in the development and execution of highly significant precolumbian archeological sites throughout the Caribbean, Central America and Latin America. He has been in the forefront of archeological field methodologies and has been a university professor in Ecuador for over a decade.

            Ph.D. – Geophysicist

            Dr. Goodman is the developer of the leading Ground Penetrating Radar Imaging Software, GPR-Slice. He is a recognized world leader and extensively published in remote sensing in archaeology. He has developed the design and implementation of numerous projects on internationally significant archaeological sites and properties.
